Feedback from first day of Christmas camp

A big shout out to everyone at Christmas camp this morning, all of you guys did a great job, whether it was applying a pole plant in your turn, timing of your pole plant, or initiation of you turn, everyone is starting to figure it all out.  I would like each of you to continue to focus on the things that either your coach or any other of the coaches talks to you about whether it is while you are free skiing down to the lift or while on the lift, these are both perfect opportunities for you to practice and visualize what we want you to apply to your skiing.
For my guys, Patrick we need to find a way to keep your weight moving forward, your initiation is good but as you are transferring your weight over to the new ski, you still need to keep your body moving with the skis and not let it get caught on the tail of the ski.  Zack, as we talked about this morning, lets continue to open that stance up more, bend the knee and drive it forward more through the turn.  Aj, your focus for now is to get your initiation higher up in the turn allowing your to drive those hips and skis throughout the turn with a higher line, if you did this, even the ruts that were there today would not affect your line because you would be making your own line to run.  Ravy, lets concentrate on getting more aggressive between each gate, driving those hands, hips and knees though out each turn looking for speed, the timing and the start of your turn are good but continue to keep the other things in mind as well.  Erin, I want you to focus on relaxing the upper body more, start the turn from flexing the ankles, drive your knees through, include the hips and then move your body forward NOT UP through turn.  Miaja, your focus needs to be more on including your hips with each turn, you are getting the ankles and knees moving through the turn, but from the knees up to your waste you are moving back, all of that needs to start moving FORWARD up over the front of each ski, allowing you to be able to get the transition higher up the hill and start the knew turn earlier.
Tomorrow we will be training slalom again with the same focus in mind and then GS both Thursday and Friday.  Unfortunately we will not have the opportunity during camp to train speed runs, Becky and the rest of the coaches all feel that it would unsafe considering the lack of snow out there.

Again great effort by everyone and see you all bright and early.

Tonight bring your slalom skis we will be doing a slalom set with brush gates working on outriggers (getting my leg long & away from my body) & Schloppy Turns (getting angulated on my skis to hold my downhill ski / while holding my super rolled ankles).

Expect to hike a little bit so bring some water and a little swagger.

Eric Hayes GS

Patrick and Miaja, I would like for both of you to be at Park City ready to ski by 8 tomorrow morning, they are going to have one training run off of payday for each athlete and then slip, something that you both will want to take advantage of.  I will have your bibs when you get there, so all you will need to worry about is getting your ticket for the day or multiple tickets for the weekend.  I hope that you both mentally and physically prepare yourselves and your skis (wax and tune), eat a good meal tonight and get some good rest, we have a long weekend ahead of us.

See you both first thing in the morning,
Coach Drew

J3's attending the Eric Hayes race

Alright guys, so the race at Park City is right around the corner and for some this is your first IMD race. I hope you all are getting excited as you should be.  Each day we are there I would like for everyone to meet me on the plaza deck right there at the base, ready to ski by 8.  As I hope you all already know, tonight is our first night training of the season and it's gonna be a cold and snowy one, so dress warm. Depending on what we have available for hill space, the plan is to work on slalom drills.  I have said it before, but I will say it again, I am very happy with all of you on your determination and positive attitudes when working on drills and even having to hike, I have seen a great deal of improvement by each of you, thumbs up:)  If anyone has any comments, concerns or questions in general please DO NOT hesitate to call.

See you all tonight.

Another great weekend put forth by the J3's

Great job this weekend to the entire J3 team, I really appreciate all of the hard work each one of you have put forth in the drills we work on and on the courses we run through, as well as the excess amounts of hiking done in order to complete the drills.  In the matter of weeks we have been training, I have seen great amounts of improvements from each of you.  Sometimes it is those easy, quick fixes that you do to help you in a big way.  Again great job to all of you and see you all Tuesday night.
P.S.
Thank you Miaja and Erin for bringing in your list of goals.

J4's & J3's in my group. Good training last week, when your attempt to do drills didn't make my eyes weep.

Congrats on Aspen & Lindsay for both getting double digit helmet stickers.

This week look forward to brush or soft gate drills on Great Western if conditions allow. GS skis on Saturday, Slalom skis on Sunday. Bring water for hiking. Better be hyped and bring it!!
